Chamunda is a part of Mother Parvati.It is written in Markandeya Purana about the birth of Chamunda Mata. Chamunda Mata is very beautiful.

• Once upon a time there were two Rakshas named Shumbha Nishumbha.They created havoc on earth and heaven.
• All gods and humans were banished from heaven and earth.

• Rishis also used to persecute the sages a lot.
• Then all the sages, saints, gods and humans went to the Himalayas and started worshiping Goddess Parvati there.

• After many years of devotion, Mother Parvati appeared.Everyone started chanting Jai Jai Maa.
• After that Mother Parvati gave birth to a goddess from her body whose name was Kosiki.Whose beauty was discussed far and wide.

• Then shumbh nishumbha, seeing the beauty of her mother, sent a marriage proposal.Chand Mund had brought that proposal.
• Told chand mund that if the woman does not come then how will you drag her.
• If he still does not come then kill him.
• Then chand mund challenged mother and came to the battlefield.

• Then mother said that I will marry the one who defeats me in the war.
• Chand Mund fought with Mata.This war was such that the earth and sky trembled.
• The earth turned red with blood.

• Then mother fought with Chand Mund and killed him.

• After doing Chand Munda, mother’s name was Chamunda.

• When shumbh nishumbh came to know about this, he said that this is a women caste, how can she kill chand mund.
• So shumb nishumbh came to the battlefield, and got ready to fight with mother.
• Because sumbh nishumbh to vardan got, that only virgin girl kill them.
• When he came to fight with mother goddess, bhagwati took the form of add kuwari.
• There was a war between the few years.
• So sumbh nishumbh was killed.
• So the gods praised the goddess.
