mor pankh

Krishna and peacock feather have a very old relationship. Mother Yashoda always decorated her forehead with peacock feathers. Radha’s name is hidden in peacock feathers. When radha and krishna would dance, she would adorn krishna forehead with a peacock crown. It is said that the name of Radha is hidden in the peacock feather. According to Hindu religion, no evil power can reside in the house where there are peacock feathers.

Do you know why this mor ke pankh is present on the forehead of Shri Krishna?

  • This is from Treta Yuga when Shri Ramchandra ji was exiled. He was wandering in the forest with Mother Sita and Lakshmana. The sun was shining overhead and it was a scorching heat.
  • In such a situation, Mother Sita felt very thirsty for water. Sita Mata asked Shri Ramchandra ji for water but there was no water anywhere around.
  • A peacock saw Shri Ramchandra ji. So Shri Ramchandra ji asked the peacock he could find water somewhere nearby. Peacock said that there is a well a little further ahead and water can be found there. but you can lose your way.So I go ahead.
  • I go falling a feather. Because there’s a problem I can’t walk with you. The peacock flew away, dropping one of its feathers.
  • Let us tell you that the peacock has a season when it sheds its feathers. When it sheds its wings in any other season it dies. The peacock took Shri Ram ji to the water well without caring for his life.
  • Shri Ramchandra ji reached there and quenched the thirst of Mother Sita.now only one feather of the peacock was left he started thinking how lucky he was to be useful to his Lord and the peacock died.
  • Shri Ramchandra ji said that I cannot repay your debt in this life. I will be born as Shri Krishna in the dwapara yuga. For this reason, mor ka pankh resides on the forehead of Shri Krishna.
