What is the history of Vrindavan?

Do you know? there is a temple in India where God is not awakened. There is no Mangala Aarti, no ringing of bells. That is the temple of Banke Bihari ji which is in Vrindavan. This is a temple in which his heart beats with divine energy. Aarti happens only once a year on Janmashtami.

  • Vrindavan is a tample in the whole of India in which there is great faith in Hinduism. The birth and pastimes of Lord Krishna are described in this city.
  • Radha ji is seated in Barsana. In her previous life, Radha was Queen Kedar’s daughter Vrinda. Who did penance here to get water for Lord Krishna as her husband. His penance place is called Vrindavan.
  • Krishna ji is known as Banke Bihari ji in Vrindavan. Vrindavan is situated on the banks of river Jamuna, 12 kilometers from Mathura. There is a description of the activities of Shri Krishna from childhood till adulthood.
  • Vrindavan’s king is Shyam Sundar and queen is Radha.

DO YOU KNOW HOW BANKE BIHARI JI CAME TO VRINDAVAN?

  • Haridas was born to Lalita in Haridaspur near Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, on the day of Radha Ashtami in 1478 AD. who was Radha’s best friend.
  • Haridas was engrossed in devotion and meditation since childhood. When he grew up, he was married to Harimati. she was also an ascetic.
  • One day Harimati ji called her Lord so loudly that she got absorbed in a lamp. She became a spark and went to krishna loka.
  • When Haridas came to know about this, he went to Vrindavan. At that time there was neither any city nor any temple, there was only forest.
  • Haridas used to sing hymns of Lord Krishna while sitting in the grove of Nidhivan. His voice was so sweet that every tree, plant and animal used to come to listen to his hymns.
  • Haridas ji was the teacher of Tansen. Tansen was one of the nine gems of King Akbar.
  • One day Haridas ji was in his devotion for so long that Radha Krishna himself came to give him darshan. There was so much light that all the disciples eyes were blinded and that disciple started telling Guru ji that we also have to visit Radha Krishan.

Do you know how radha krishna became one?

  • Hari Das ji requested Radha Krishna to unite. Radha Krishna became one and turned into a statue. When Radha Krishna came in the form of idol, the idol was bent at three places.
  • This statue was named Banke Bihari. bank means beautiful face. Bihari means one who does Bihar in the keys of Vrindavan.
  • Now this idol has been installed in a small temple. So the responsibility of this idol was given to Haridas ji’s younger brother go-swami Haridas ji.
  • Mughals attacked temples many times. They would pick up whatever they found in the temples. So the disciple of Goswami Haridas ji took this idol to Jaipur for some time.
  • So after a few years the descendants of l Goswami hari das thought that this idol should be installed in Vrindavan.
  • This idol was installed by Goswamis in Vrindavan in 1500 AD.
  • Raja Mansingh of Jaipur donated three acres of Vrindavan land. King Akbar also donated 25 bighas of land and elsewhere the kings donated gold and silver jewelery and many other things.
  • When the statue was installed, Banke Bihari ji had such a beautiful face, big eyes, small hands and small feet, it seemed as if the entire universe was contained in it, it seemed as if the statue would speak.

How many names did banke bihari-

  • As days passed, people changed their names to Banke Bihari Ji and some started lovingly calling Gopi, Madhav, Krishna, Laddu, Chhaliya.
  • There are so many secrets of Vrindavan that even today life will fall short to tell them.
